  1. New RISC OS USB support site

    A new web site dedicated to USB on RISC OS is now online at http://www.riscos-usb.com/. It aims to be a central resource for USB on RISC OS, and includes information on software and devices.

  1. Cerilica Vantage price reduction

    The Wakefield show saw the launch of Cerilica Vantage's on-CD electronic manual format. The CD now contains three PDF full manuals, each optimised for on-screen viewing and printing through commercial and freeware applications such as Cerilica's RiScript, PDF, and Adobe's Acrobat. This change in product format has allowed the base price of Vantage to drop significantly, from the previous GBP241.50, to GBP177.50 (UK, including package, postage and VAT).

    For those who prefer to read a physical manual, the option to purchase the comprehensive 230+ page item is still available at GBP25 (UK, fully inclusive). This option is especially attractive to German-language customers who are now able to purchase a fully translated and printed manual exclusively from Cerilica's German distributors, a4com.

    All customers of Cerilica Vantage will gain full access to the forthcoming major release, Vantage 1.10, which was previewed at Wakefield. More information on the upgrade, along with some new sample images, may be found at http://www.cerilica.com/vantage/v1-10prev/.

  2. Living with Technology magazine

    Living with Technology, a new magazine from Archive Publications, was was launched at the Wakefield RISC OS Show. The first issue includes articles on: solar heating for hot water, digital radio, GPS, web standards, building your own PC, Apple's iBook, and home networking.

  3. Stuart Tyrrell Developments price reductions

    Following the success of the Wakefield Show, STD have been able to negotiate improved pricing from their suppliers and importers.

    With immediate effect the price of the Keyboard Controlled switch (an active switch which allows a keyboard, monitor and mouse to be shared between two machines) will be:

    • switch with cables: GBP89.95 inc VAT and next-day delivery (was GBP99)
    • also including PS2MouseMini (required for non-A7000 / RiscStation machines): GBP99.95 inc VAT and next-day special delivery (was GBP113)

    STD's MultiMedia Keyboard has been subject to a re-design (now non-click), and is available for GBP24.95 inc VAT and delivery (was GBP34.95).

  4. Simtec USB interfaces

    Simtec Electronics are pleased to announce a range of USB interfaces for the RISC OS market.

    There are two versions. One is an ISA card (USB11-isa) suitable for the RiscStation R7500. The other is a podule version (USB11-pod) suitable for Acorn computers, such as the Risc PC, A7000, A5000, and even A310!

    The cards, including basic drivers, will be shipping in July 2002 and should cost GBP79 (plus VAT and carriage). Additional drivers will be available at extra cost from Simtec's development partners.

    • ccdoc, source code interface documentation for RISC OS

      A port of ccdoc, a tool that generates HTML documentation from C/C++ declaration header files.

    • PRMinXML, RISC OS documentation project

      A collection of components which can be used to write PRM-like documentation in a structured manner. PRM documentation written in XML according to a DTD and structure document can be converted to any number of formats. At present only HTML is supported, but future formats include StrongHelp and text.

    • AMPlay v1.41

      Freeware front-end for the AMPlayer (audio MPEG) module. Menu formats can now be specified using macros, other interface improvements and bug fixes.

      Shareware addons for the ANT Internet Suite. There are several new features, bug fixes, and even more functionality.

    • ARMalyser version v0.28

      ARM code analyser that understands RISC OS executable, module, object, and library formats. This version fixes a problem with analyser warning not being included in the output file, can recognise SDT2 type instructions, and removed 26bit wrapping from PC relative address calculations.

    • BBCFiles v0.36

      File converter that converts between some of the various types of files used by BBC emulators on Acorn and other systems. It supports 6502Em style applications and scripts, /ssd dfs disc images (including Watford double catalogue), vanilla directories, BBC files with /inf files and /uef files.

    • BeebIt v0.40

      Freeware BBC Micro computer emulator for RISC OS versions 3.00 and above. It emulates the Acorn BBC Model B, BBC Model B+ and BBC Master 128 computers. New features include 65C12 CPU, Master 128, and WD 1770 FDC emulation.

    • BeebItFS v0.29

      8-bit BBC Micro filing system, written so BeebIt can access files on RISC OS filing systems. It also allows the use of some 6502Em style 'BBC Applications'.

    • BitField v1.10

      A utility for programmers to assist in setting flag words or in other situations where particular bits of a number need to be set.

    • Bugz v1.15

      Tool for reporting faults in applications. It is intended for developers to distribute 'Bugz' description files and when used with 'Bugz' will allow users to feed back more useful information to the developers.

    • CMunge v0.33

      A free CMHG replacement, it generates module headers for C programs. Since the last release there have been quite a few changes for people who have reported problems and a major rewrite of the C header generator.

      Front end for GCC programming tools, GCCide also includes a project manager and generates makefiles. This version includes support for GCC v2_95_4 and other improvements.

    • Gems v1.06

      Game involving aligning Gems horizontally or vertically, in runs of three or more to gain points. This version eliminates some bugs and also optimises speed on pre StrongARM machines.
