MicroDigital Omega in the South East
With the help of the AAUG affiliated clubs in and around London, APDL has
arranged for David Atkins of MicroDigital to give a presentation and
demonstrate the Omega.
This will take place on 11th September at 7.30 for an 8 o'clock start at
the venue normally used by the M25 East RISC OS User Group, Harold Court
School, Church Road, Harold Wood, RM3 0SH.
The venue is very easy to get to. It is about 3 minutes from junction 28
(junction with the A12) on the M25 and very close to Harold Wood station.
There is plenty of car parking space. For detailed instructions see the
M25EROUG web site at http://www.m25eroug.riscos.org.uk/.
Everyone will be welcome, so please do tell your friends. Remember that
this will almost certainly be your first and last chance to see an Omega
in the South before production starts, and it could also be your only
chance this year. If you intend to go it would be helpful if you could
e-mail mailto:omega@apdl.co.uk to give an idea of the number of people
to expect.
MicroDigital are also planning to do a demonstration in Scotland on 7th
September. Details to follow.

Surftec end of line summer sale
Surftec is pleased to announce an end of line summer sale on its popular
DigiFlash CompactFlash and SmartMedia products. DigiFlash is now GBP79
including VAT, down from its old price of GBP92.82.
DigiFlash allows any RISC OS 3.5 or later machine to read data from
CompactFlash or SmartMedia data cartridges, typically used with Digital
Cameras, digital audio players etc.
The readers interface with any Acorn, MicroDigital, RiscStation or other
RISC OS machine running RISC OS 3.5 or greater, via the parallel port. The
reader also has a pass through port allowing your printer to remain
connected to the computer at the same time as the reader.
DigiFlash allows fast transfer of images, SmartMedia runs at around
250k/sec and CompactFlash can achieve speeds of up to 780k/sec. This is
far faster than transfer by serial port, and it does not require the
camera, so no drained batteries. SmartMedia is read only, whereas
CompactFlash can also be written to. DigiFlash CompactFlash even works
with the IBM MicroDrive.
Surftec will be ordering its last batch of readers at the end of the
month. DigiFlash will be reborn early next year as a USB connected
device.
