  1. BBC micro compatible computer

MiniB is a new floppy disc sized BBC micro compatible 6502 home brew computer. It is equipped with:

    • 128k flash for OS and applications software and 32k SRAM
    • PS/2 keyboard port
    • 20x4 LCD display
    • IIC bus with Y2K compatible real time clock
    • BBC micro compatible 1MHz bus

There is also a BBC MOS "like" operating system to drive it, which presents all the usual OSByte etc. interfaces - BBC BASIC runs without modification.

The only minor drawback is that you have to build it yourself. For details see http://www.sprow.co.uk/bbc/minib.htm.

  2. RISC OS Filetypes database information

As part of the RISC OS Select Scheme, RISCOS Ltd. intend to introduce a method whereby a RISC OS Filetypes database can be interrogated to provide information about the features and availability of programs to handle specific RISC OS filetypes.

Developers who have registered filetypes in the past, and are happy for details to be published, should e-mail mailto:developer@riscos.com. If you do not want any details of a Registered Filetype to be made public, you should also contact RISCOS Ltd. Otherwise it will be listed as allocated to a company, without giving a Filetype name or further details.

  3. BBC Domesday - Emulation and Preservation publicity event

On the 2nd of December the CAMiLEON project is holding an event at the University of Leeds to demonstrate and publicize its digital preservation work with BBC Domesday. The audience will include original members of the Domesday Project, as well as a good showing from the digital preservation and BBC/Acorn/RISC OS communities. There will be four speakers including Peter Armstrong, the then Chairman of the Domesday Project, and some special guests. A full demonstration of the BBC Domesday emulation will be running alongside the original BBC kit.

This will be an opportunity to chat with designers of Domesday and see it in action in its original and emulated forms. There is already a great deal of press interest and the event is expected to feature heavily in the national news. The event will take place at 4pm on the 2nd December at the University of Leeds.

A number of places are available for this invitation only event. Priority will be given to those with a real Domesday link and to current RISC OS press. Further information on the project can be found at: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/camileon/
