  1. wimpbasic.org

    Wimpbasic has a new home, following on from the success of Wimpbasic.Com.

    Wimpbasic is a programming aid for the development of Wimp based software. It takes all the hard work out of programming development. Wimpbasic allows the editing of code, windows all within the same environment, and produces compact programs at compile time. For those more complex tasks full access is available to the OS.

    Wimpbasic is produced by Clares. Wimpbasic.org is an independent resource for users of the system. If you have written a Wimpbasic application please submit it along with its resource files for users to look at.

  1. Iyonix available now

    Castle Technology have announced the availability of the IYONIX pc in the form of a high spec model with 128MB DDR RAM, 80GB hard drive and 48x CD ReWriter.

    The Iyonix web site http://www.iyonix.com/ has been updated with full details of this new machine. Orders can be placed on the web site, by email, by phone or by fax.

    Castle have also launched a software registration scheme for software developers to have their software branded as 'IYONIX OK' when converted to run on the 32-bit IYONIX pc. Compatible software will be listed at http://www.iyonix.com/software/.

    Microdigital has begun production of their new Omega computer, and has released details of the ARMTwister 26bit to 32bit code translation system:

    Microdigital expect the first machines to be available in time for Christmas and to be shipping 1GHz XScale processors in January.

    RISC OS Ltd is pleased to announce the availability of the release version of Select 2 for subscribers to download from the Select website.

  4. ExpLAN LCD and laser printer price reductions

    ExpLAN Computers is able to pass on more reductions in the prices of the LCD monitors they supply with full RO instructions and MDFs. For example:

    • L17AS (Acer screen) 17-inch down again from GBP498 to GBP433.57

  7. Simtec USB Update

    Simtec has released a new version of their USB stack for RISC OS. Recent additions mean that the Simtec USB stack now has full support for several device classes, including:

    • HUB, full hub support complete with power and bandwidth management.
    • HID, all keyboards and mice.
    • Printers, all printers can be physically connected just like parallel ones. Printer definition files are available for numerous printers including nearly all HP printers.
    • Mass storage, several partners are soon to introduce mass storage drivers for a selection of devices.

    In addition to these class drivers there is now support for Epson scanners with Dave Pilling's TWAIN drivers, cameras from Photodesk and joysticks from STDevl and even DLink USB radio (included with stack).
