RISCOS Expo 2004 Update

The Big Ben Club, the nationwide Dutch Acorn User Group, will hold its annual National Show, the RISCOS Expo 2004, this month.

Show date: Saturday, June 19th, 2004
Venue: Expohall, Hotel Mercure, Buizerdlaan 10, Nieuwegein (near the city of Utrecht)
A first class location, with restaurant, parking garage (free)
From: 11.00am to 5.00pm
Admission: members free, non-members EUR7

The Show offers exhibitions by various companies, including Dutch, German, and British Acorn dealers, demonstrations by club members, etc. Visitors are members and non-members from Holland, Belgium, Germany, etc. There will also be a theatre next to the Expohall for demonstration purposes.

ARM Assembly Language Programming

Pete Cockerell's ARM Assembly Language Programming book is now back in print, priced at GBP14.95 plus postage (UK postage will be fixed at GBP1.50 until the end of July).

ProAction are offering it in either A4 or A5 size (the A4 version is the A5 original scaled to fit an A4 page for those who prefer that format).

RISCWorld Volume 5 Issue 1

The latest issue of RISCWorld, the CD based subscription magazine for all users of RISC OS, includes an in depth Wakefield 2004 show report, complete with pre-show video walkround.

There is also a preview of Expo 2004 in the Netherlands, the next article in a series on web site design, a look at games for RISC OS, information on how to run VirtualAcorn on restricted users accounts under Microsoft Windows XP, and all the regular features.

The CD includes as much as possible of the software mentioned, in addition to this issue's free commercial software package, WebFX3D from Dansoft Developments, which allows the creation of 3D artwork for web sites and countless other uses.

    An alternative wheel mouse driver for Stuart Tyrrell's PS2Mouse interfaces, with different wheel behaviour. This version is StrongARM, Impression, and Oregano2 compatible.

  • KinoAMP v0.32
    An MPEG movie player. This release is mainly to add multiple audio codec support. Until now KinoAMP has only been able to use the AMPlayer module to decode and play MPEG soundtracks, thanks to Andre Timmermans it can now also use the DiskSample module.

  • Photodesk Grid Enhancement v1.2
    A patch that provides a numbered grid for the gamma display and printer calibration windows in Photodesk. This latest release extends the use of the same grid to the printer calibration window. The problem with the WimpSlot size and how to fix it have been clarified in the ReadMe file.

  • Thumbcat v3.5
    An image catalogue application. This release fixes issues reported by users since the release of v3.3 and also has a couple of minor enhancements.

  • Variations v0.32
    Free "variations on a theme" image processing program. The program sets off in a major new direction with this version by including a fast thumbnailing pseudo filer, using the thumbnails built into digital camera 'exif' images.
