General News

1) RISC OS SouthWest Show reminder
The RISC OS SouthWest Show 2008 will be held at the Webbington Hotel,
North Somerset, BS26 2HU, on Saturday 23rd February 2008 from 10am to 4pm.
2) Wakefield Show 2008
The Wakefield RISCOS Computer Club are pleased to announce that the
Wakefield Show 2008 will be held on Saturday 26th April.
The show is returning to where it all began back in 1996, the Ceder Court
Hotel, Jct 39 M1, Wakefield. The club is also celebrating its 25th
anniversary.
Show sponsors this year include Advantage 6 and M W Software. For more

3) RISC OS Connect
RISC OS Connect is a web based initiative to connect the people of the
RISC OS community to each other. It hopes to attract both programmers and
non-programmers who want to contribute to the ongoing developments in some
way.
Initially the main focus of the web site will be around the Skills
Database. This is a collection of people who have added themselves and
described what function they are able to perform.

1) New developer for Organizer
Chris Morison's personal information manager, Organizer, has been acquired
for further development by RISC OS user Nigel Willmott, through his
company North One Communications Ltd.
For the moment, the latest version of Organizer (v1.57) remains available
from Chris Morison's web site .

1) New software summary
* PhotoFiler, filer extension
PhotoFiler is an extension to the RISC OS Filer which adds an image
thumbnailing facility. With PhotoFiler loaded, the file type icons for
Sprites, DrawFiles, JPEGs and ArtWorks are replaced with a miniature
version of the picture. PhotoFiler can also integrate with ImageFS to
provide thumbnails for all of its supported formats. Previous versions
were commercial software sold by WSS, but the software is now free and
the source code is included.
* Seek'n'Link, a new search tool
A new search tool, primarily designed for searching off-line (local) web
pages - though it can search other types as well - and presenting the
results in an HTML file, which is Filer_Run so that it is launched in
your web browser of choice.
2) Updated software summary
* 7backup v1.08
Backup software. This version has a clean and simple graphical user
interface and there is an add-on application, 7bupstats, which tells you
what 7backup is doing at any given moment even when it is backing up in
the background.
* ID3TagEd v0.24.7
Create or edit MPEG audio ID3 tags. Multiple new features.
